Federal Signal has expanded our communications infra-structure options by adding cellular and/or satellite capabilities for both mechanical and electronic siren controllers. The integrated cellular modem and satellite terminal is an ideal option for activating and monitoring sirens when distance and/or geographical barriers are present. The cellular modem can be ordered based on your specific carrier, the satellite terminal is offered using the Isat Data Pro network based on its proven reliability and coverage. Cellular and Satellite upgrade kits are available for the UltraVoice Electronic and DC Siren Controllers. Cellular and Satellite service can be added independently or together to form a robust network architecture.
Sirens have traditionally been networked using analog radio systems. Analog radio systems are transitioning to digital communications which include P25 and Tetra radio systems, Cellular and Satellite. Each of these solutions is supported with the Federal Signal siren controllers. Our controllers are flexible to allow a transition from analog radio to these digital solutions by supporting both technologies simultaneously. Cellular and/or satellite use for mechanical and electronic sirens can improve the throughput, activation and reporting of siren functions. While satellite and cellular services require monthly service agreements the costs have been declining as the service becomes ubiquitous across many regions. When combined with solar power the ability to provide sirens in remote areas where power is questionable or potentially not available is achieved. The use of Satellite service is also beneficial to allow communications with no reliance on remote communication devices like cellular towers or radio repeaters.
CELLULAR* – The Federal Signal cellular modem provides uninterrupted real-time, two-way data exchange in support of mission critical applications. The cellular modem features a sleek, compact form factor, increasing its versatility and ability to be integrated within existing enclosures. With a rugged design, Class I Div 2 certification, the cellular modem is an ideal solution for a wide range of industrial and municipal applications. Federal Signal cellular modems are available for CDMA networks through North and South America and GSM networks through North and South America and throughout Europe.
SATELLITE – Using Inmarsat’s network of geosynchronous satellites, the Isat Data Pro network provides the ability to monitor and control remote Federal Signal mechanical and electronic sirens. The remote satellite terminal is a rugged external, small form factor design, which requires outdoor mounting. Federal Signal offers flexible billing plans with low monthly costs. The network availability is 99.995% and 24/7 Network Operations Center (NOC) provides continuous and reliable service, which is required with these types of mission critical services.
